Buddhism, Bhutan and Me

Rinzin Jurmey (Bhutan)

Eighteen-year-old Rinzin Jurmey explores the delicate balance between ancient Buddhist traditions and the rapid onset of globalization in Bhutan. Having chosen the life of a monk at age eleven, Jurmey travels between his contemplative monastery and modern cities filled with hip-hop, video games, and technology. His film captures a nation navigating its transition from isolation to modernity, examining how Bhutan’s "Gross National Happiness" values can survive in a materialistic world.
